iPad Pro in education

Did we need a bigger iPad? We didn’t know until now, so where does it fit in education? The iPad Pro presents a wonderful opportunity to do something different. We have become used to the screen size of the iPad Air and the iPad mini is merely an extension of this; same experience, different size.

With a screen size of 12.9 inches, it is big and it’s potential is huge. Using the multitouch display will be better than ever as the images, the videos, the apps will be bigger than ever. The ability to view a whole A4 page without scrolling or zooming can only increase the potential for productivity. With iMovie, the whole timeline of a movie can be viewed with scrolling. The physical size of the device is now the greatest strength of the iPad Pro; we have the ability to display more information on one device that we can pick up to take learning anywhere.

The iPad Pro is a truly collaborative device with the interaction of two people, shared between two students or teacher and student. The iPad Pro will not replace the Air or the Mini in the mainstream but it fills a space where the teacher can use it to enable and engage students in an amazing way.

When getting the best use out of iPad in Education, it is the use of multiple apps working in conjunction to create a brilliant end product. Now we have the ability to use two apps simultaneously with split view. Students can write a script for a video using Pages whilst researching using Safari and when it comes to recording that video they can have their script as an autocue. No more swapping between apps to create content, it can all be done at the same time on one screen. The technology is not getting in the way of the content creation and most importantly it is not getting in the way of the learning.

With the Apple Pencil, digital art will take a leap further. Allowing the creation of true pieces of digital art using a specific piece of technology to draw with we now have a device that will create wonderful pieces of art that does everything else an iPad can do.

The new Smart Keyboard brings the iPad closer to replacing our everyday computers. Having a physical keyboard frees up even more screen real estate for productivity. Combining the traditional way of typing with the multitouch display further cements the iPad as the vision of computing in the future.
