Great AR apps for iOS11

With the release of iOS11 and the upcoming launch of iPhone X, augmented reality, or AR, has come to the App store. Some developers have already created incredible apps that demonstrate what might be possible when they manage to take full advantage of Apple's new ARKit and hardware.

Here at KRCS, we love new and exciting apps, and we thought we'd share some of our favourite, free, AR apps available now. If you have an iPad Pro, or an iPhone 6s and above, you can download and try these too. Please note however, you can still download/buy these apps on older devices that run iOS11, however, the AR functionality won't work. Also, it’s worth making sure you are downloading the correct version for your device, as some are iPhone only.

MeasureKit

MeasureKit is a straight-forward app that allows you to measure different things around you using your iPhone or iPad. MeasureKit has a number of modes that make it easy to measure everyday items, even entire rooms and more. We made a quick video to show you how easy it is to do some basic measuring. Take a look!

MeasureKit also offers in-app purchases to unlock further features. These features include an angles tool, trajectory tool, a marker pin tool, and even a too for measuring people. Who needs a tape measure? Settle the debate of who's taller with your iPhone or iPad!

IKEA Place

A familiar name in the list, but a new one in the AR world, IKEA. IKEA Place allows you to virtually 'place' their famous Swedish furniture into your living or work space. The app gives you an impression of the furnitures size, design and how it might look in your desired area. Watch below as we add stools, bins and shelves to a quiet corner of our office.

IKEA Place also lets you share your latest interior redesign on social media. You can even order that perfect piece of furniture directly through the app. Flat-pack joy starts here!

JigSpace

JigSpace is a amazing 3D learning experience. If you've ever had the thought "How does that work?” You can now see exactly how something like an alarm clock works, right on your desk in front of you with the JigSpace 3D interactive experience. From a satellite to a lightsaber, learn how it works at your own pace. Below you can see what we mean when JigSpace demonstrates how an old-timey alarm clock functions.

This is just a small selection of the AR apps available on the app store and there's no doubt we'll see more released in the coming months. With the forthcoming launch of the iPhone X, with it's new state-of-the-art cameras and processor, combined with the introduction of ARKit, we think it won't be long before AR becomes part of your everyday.
