Cyber Essentials for Schools & Business
Cyber Essentials is a government programme that is designed for education and business organisations of all sizes, to assist with defending themselves against common cyber threats in a low-cost manner. It’s administrated by IASME Consortium and supported by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
KRCS understand how to secure, prevent and protect Apple technology from cyber threats with standalone products from Jamf, or with our fully Managed Service for Education and Business.
Benefits of certification
Required if applying for government contracts (either directly or part of the supply chain)
Compliance protects the organisation from around 80% of current common cyber attacks
Cyber liability insurance for certified organisations (with less than £20m annual turnover)
Customers feel confident entrusting data to an organisation that has CE certification
Entry on the public NCSC database of certified organisations
Certified advertising material for website use and within emails
Simple approach, basic security controls, and low-cost
Peace of mind that your organisation is secure
Security breaches
In 2020, around 88% of UK organisations suffered security breaches where the average cost of the attack was £16,000. Having Cyber Essentials certification can prevent these breaches, along with associated costs and damage to reputation.
Certification & Assessment
There are Cyber Essentials Basic and Cyber Essentials Plus certifications. Both last for one year before requiring renewal, so it’s useful to think of them as an ‘MOT for security’. You can apply for the certifications below via IASME’s website.
Cyber Essentials Basic
A self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ) that is submitted to IASME for their approval. If passed, certification is granted for one year. The main goal of Basic is to identify oversights in device/network security and overall procedures of the organisation. For SMEs, it is a cost-effective method to comply with basic GDPR standards.
Cyber Essentials Plus
Can be applied for within three months of receiving Basic certification. It is an expansion upon the Cyber Essentials Basic SAQ that includes an audit of the organisation's IT systems by an external, certified auditor. In this audit, they will confirm that all the necessary controls that have been declared in Cyber Essentials Basic are implemented in the organisation's network.
How KRCS can help you
Managed Service for Education & Business
Our fully managed service can automatically enforce many security settings across your entire Apple device estate, prevent users from changing them and ensure ongoing device compliance - straight out of the box.
We can also integrate Jamf Pro with your existing Conditional Access policies from Microsoft Entra and Google BeyondCorp, so that only verified users on enrolled, secure devices can access organisational data.
Jamf Connect allows users to sign-in to Macs using their Microsoft 365 accounts and ensures that Admin permissions aren’t granted. It also honours your existing MFA and password policies for added authentication.
Jamf Protect the only dedicated Apple security solution, protects your Macs from the very latest 'zero-day' malware, monitors your apps and files for suspicious behaviour and also protects against network-based threats, such as phishing attacks.
