Apple Distinguished Educator
KRCS are pleased to welcome Chris Smith to the Education Team as our Apple Professional Learning Specialist who is qualified to deliver both Apple Professional Learning courses and the KRCS training program to education institutions.
He is also an Apple Distinguished Educator and Apple Teacher. KRCS have worked with Chris in his role as an independent education consultant for the past eleven years, delivering training to our customers on Apple products. He has also presented at numerous KRCS events and supported us at the BETT Show in London.
Primary school teacher
As a former Primary school teacher and Advisory Teacher to Coventry Local Authority, Chris has 27 years of experience in education. He is a passionate educator and works with people to ensure that they get the best out of the technology they have invested in. For him, the challenge and the reward is seeing people move on and become confident, enthusiastic users of technology and ultimately for pupils to be engaged and motivated in their learning, achieving their potential.
Apple Regional Training Centre
In 2006, Coventry Local Authority was nominated as an Apple Regional Training Centre, based at Elm Bank in the City Centre with Chris at the helm, managing the Centre and developing the training courses which were delivered to teachers using Apple technology. KRCS supported the RTC and as a result, a majority of schools in the area have been using Mac and iPad effectively in the classroom for many years. Chris continues to mentor these schools and has a close working relationship with many of them.
Alongside the RTC, Chris created the Digital Creativity Awards for Coventry Schools which continue to this day, aimed at rewarding the creativity of school children at a “red carpet” award ceremony each year. For this, Chris uses his music and film editing skills to prepare all of the entries for the awards night and will often help schools with their end of year productions.
He formerly taught Music Technology modules at a Blue Coat School in Coventry as well as Undergraduate IT courses for teachers at Edge Hill University and was seconded to the Inclusion Team at Becta for one and a half years.
Chris also sings in a band and plays both guitar and keyboard, running a small recording studio with a number of songs getting BBC Radio airplay!
